Lock Mastery

Below is a table describing each rank of the Lock Mastery Rogue Guild skill. Each rank requires 125 points.

General Info:
Rank is the number of ranks you currently have. (The number you see when you type "GLD".)
Blue tasks are new for that rank.
Picking RT, up to -14, will not go below 5 seconds (unless it was already 0).
Picking RT at -15 can go down to 4 seconds.
Special boxes are boxes you may want to save up before hand in preparation for a specific rank. Quantity assumes no trading tasks, and is approximate.
In addition to the special boxes, you will also need approximately 20 'decent' boxes and 15 'tough' boxes per rank.
Save Your Trapped Boxes for Later:
For wedge and trap component reps, you will need a LOT of trapped boxes. Start saving them NOW. If you think LM is difficult now, it's 1000 times harder when you're doing component reps. Save those traps!
You'll need about 85 plated boxes.
You'll need about 200 assorted jaws, needle, springs, tumbler (fuser), dark crystal, sphere, cloud vial and fire vial traps.
Join a CHE House, if only for the extra locker space!
If you're premium, use ALL of your lockers. Use other characters just to hold the boxes for you.
Needle, jaws, dark crystal, cloud vial and (sometimes) fire goo vial traps can be picked through without setting them off. Pick the lock, empty the box, and save the box for component reps later. Then they take up only 1 spot in your locker, instead of 2 to 4 spots.
Note: Fire goo traps will sometimes go off, even when you successfully pick the lock. I don't know why.
Lockpick Info:
Have a favorite pick? Forget about it. You'll want to use the lowest possible pick whenever possible, since it allows you to get reps from much easier locks. LM is insanely difficult as it is; if you insist on always picking with vaalin, it will be 100 times harder.
Don't worry about breaking those cheap 'lowest possible' picks. Broken picks work even better for reps!
After too many breaks, however, a pick won't be usable for reps. Time to replace it.
Rank Lowest Lockpick Picking RT New Skills Tasks Special Boxes and Helpful Tips
TypeQuantity
0 n/a 0 LM PTRICK SPIN [MY box [WITH MY lockpick]] Master Reps: pick any of six boxes. Hardest box appears to be your max-lock. One task gives you the whole rank. You only need to pick one of the boxes. You don't have to pick all six.
1 Gold: 1.2, weak
WL, Teras, RR, Illistim, Vaaalor, Cysaegir, Zul, FWI
LM SENSE (room) Master Reps: Sense room conditions.
Parchment reps: Open any box in a room with specific lighting or fog.
Audience reps: Open a box in front of an audience using LM PTRICK SPIN. Lock must be a "decent challenge".
Picking reps: Open boxes, anywhere. Lock must be 'tough'.
For parchment reps, you can make the necessary conditions. Use scrolls with 205, 206, and 106 to make the necessary conditions, or ask an empath or cleric to do it for you.
2 LM SENSE (spells) Master Reps: Sense room conditions and spells.
Parchment reps: Open any box in a room with specific lighting or fog.
Audience reps: Open a box in front of an audience using LM PTRICK SPIN. Lock must be a "decent challenge".
Picking reps: Open boxes, anywhere. Lock must be 'tough'.
For Master reps where you have to sense spells (ranks 2 and 5), use the Active Spell Window or the SPELL ACTIVE verb to get the list of spells currently active on you. Note that when LM SENSE reports "voices in your head", that's the "amulet" spell, and is the only spell that does NOT show up in the SPELL active list.
3 Mithril: 1.45, above average
WL, IMT, Sol, Teras, RR, Illistim, Vaalor, Cysaegir, Zul, FWI
LM SENSE (maxtrap) Master Reps: Sense max trap.
Parchment reps: Open a decent lock in a room with specific lighting or fog.
Audience reps: Open a box in front of an audience using LM PTRICK SPIN. Lock must be a "decent challenge".
Picking reps: Open boxes, anywhere. Lock must be 'tough'.
For the Master sense trap reps, always answer with whatever trap LM SENSE tells you. It won't always be right, but you can't get a rep unless you say what LM SENSE told you. If it says it's a "fairly easy trap", you have to say "fairly easy".
4 -1 LM SENSE (maxlock) Master Reps: Sense max lock.
Parchment reps: Open a decent lock in a room with specific lighting and fog.
Audience reps: Open a box in front of an audience using LM PTRICK SPIN. Lock must be a "decent challenge".
Picking reps: Open boxes, anywhere. Lock must be 'tough'.
Just like with the max trap reps in rank 3, for these Master max lock reps, you have to answer with whatever LM SENSE tells you.
5 Glaes: 1.6, incredible
WL, IMT, Sol, Teras, RR, Illistim, Vaalor, Cysaegir, Zul, FWI
Master Reps: Sense room conditions and spells, or max trap, or max lock.
Parchment reps: Open a decent lock in a room with specific lighting and fog.
Audience reps: Open a box in front of an audience using LM PTRICK SPIN. Lock must be a "decent challenge".
Picking reps: Open boxes, anywhere. Lock must be 'tough'.
None
6 LM MEASURE MY box Master Reps: Measure lock size (with calipers).
Caliper reps (Measure): Open a decent lock after measuring with calipers.
Audience reps: Open a box in front of an audience using LM PTRICK SPIN. Lock must be a "decent challenge".
Picking reps: Open boxes, anywhere. Lock must be 'tough'.
For caliper measurement reps, you need to have the calipers tell you the same lock description (i.e., "fairly simple") as the lock actually is. Find out the lock size before measuring the lock, then keep using the calipers until you get the correct reading. There's several ways to determine the lock size:
1) Have a LM master measure the box for you.
2) Have a bard sing to the box. (Best choice -- should work 100%.)
3) Use a lousy pick and hope you get a read without clicking the lock.

For the calibration reps, use REALLY easy boxes -- you're a lot more likely to get the correct reading.
