Dateline 6/29/2000: OUTAGE JUNE 28, 2000
Welcome back! On June 28, Simutronics' web sites and games were unavailable for an extended of period of time due to hardware failure within our internet service provider. The specific cause of the failure was the "CSU/DSU", a fancy name for a very high speed modem, in the St. Louis communications center. Our connection to the internet goes from our building to that building. Therefore, when that "modem" died, the internet was not able to regain access to our machines, which were up and running after our own emergency maintenance earlier in the day. The internet provider, who owns that piece of equipment, dispatched a field engineer to replace the "modem". This unfortunate problem caused the extended downtime this evening. We apologize for the inconvenience this has caused each of you. We continue to explore how we can better respond to these situations in the future. We appreciate your understanding. |

6/27/2000 | More about the Landing Invasion on 6/24 |
As an addendum, around 4am elven time (that may be off a little), we had
Shan Rangers, Banshees, Waerns, Rotting Corpses, Death Dirges, Ghost Wolves,
and other undead outside Wehnimer Landing's gates. Many fought to their
death to knock back the invasion. One Shan Ranger was a super Ranger,
looking to be about 125-150 in age based on its attack.

6/26/2000 | Strange things happening in Elanthia |
Well some different things happening around elanthia, it seems that there was a new
critter spotted in shadow valley today. It was called a Shadow Arachnid. Killed a
body and ran off, not sure if it will be a regular thing from now on. Also shadow
mares that roam in the valley can kill anybody and fear anyone at any age, dispell
sanctify and take the spells you know, and cast them at you. Also, I don't know if
this is true or not but....There have been two cases of Lord Koar of Liabo showing up
around the glacier. He appears like: Lord Koar of Liabo apppears in a purple mist.
Lord Koar of Liabo disapppears in a purple mist. (yes I mispelled on purpose because
that word and others were mispelled) It is very strange for him to be walking around.
A very puzzled and angry -Lord Jara |

6/24/2000 | Invasion in the Landing |
At 9 PM Est, a lone Waern showed up at the north gate on the outside and feared
myself and about 10 other people before I had a chance to sanctify.
Paxia regained her senses and made the room safe, it ran off and wasn't seen again.
It did manage to kill one person, who was successfully transported to voln and raised.
I will let you know more when I get it.
-Lord Jara |

6/22/2000 | Appraise This! |
Local denominations of the Lorminstra clergy have been able to garner the finer details of death and are now able to share their new found knowledge with all clergy. Appraising a target will now reveal the presence of preservation (if any) and the duration of such effects on the dead.
6/22/2000 | Monkeys in River's Rest |
6/22/00 at approx midnight, there was a group of monkies in River's Rest
right smach dab in the middle of town. My group and I were the first to
run into them, at first I thought they were just monkies escaped from the
zoo, but they seemed some what more intelligent then regular monkies. They
seemed to communicate with signs and actions that they were hungry, so we
got them tarts and cookies. They took these happily and other citizens of
RR showed up and fed them also. Not sure what they wanted other then food.
I heard rumors that night there was a band of monkies in Icemule's town
center also but more evolved. They were carring pocketbooks and had
clothing... not sure if this is true but I know the monkies we saw were
regular looking and hungry.

The new Character Manager is scheduled to be rolled into Platinum, tomorrow,

* Auto rollers will no longer work with the new system. * During character creation, it will now be possible to "back up" in the process to correct errors, such as race, gender, etc. * During training, it will now be possible to "back up" during the current session to correct errors. * Please report any problems of bugs in-game with the BUG verb. * There are future plans to redo the stat allocation system. One idea is to have base stats which will allow the player to allocate additional points to desired stats. If anyone has thoughts and ideas on a new stat allocation system, we'd like to hear them. Feel free to send ideas to Feedback. ~ Xiri |

6/18/2000 | Sonic Armor Temporarily Disabled |

6/16/2000 | New hunting area in Icemule Trace |
A new low-level hunting area has been found down the well in Icemule trace.
New critters there are crystalline crabs, multicolored monkies, and multicolored
crocodiles. My guess is that these critters are approximately level 5.
Thurfel's Island, as it is called, is reached by going across some stepping stones at the far southern end of the area previously mapped on the Icemule Underground map. Expect an updated map sometime in the future, time permitting. (Those of you who are on my mailing lists know that time has not been very permissive of late, so it might be a while before the map is updated.) |

New Empath Spell Circle!!!
New Bard Spells!!! |
According to the Simutronics GemStone III Website, several new Bard songs, and the entire (save 2 spells) new Empath base circle have been released as of June 9th. The new empath list are spells in the range 11xx, and include condensed versions of their old healing spells, which take up less than half the spell slots that the old spells occupied. The empty slots are now filled by useful hunting and utility spells. Congratulations to all the healers; enjoy your new spells!
6/10/2000 | House Jakarta Closed!!! |
In a move unprecedented in recent times, the local goverment has closed and disbanded
an Elanthian House, House Jakarta. The official notice announcing the closure, as posted
four days ago:
House Jakarta has been closed by order of the the Cooperative Houses of Elanthia. This serious action was taken after a long examination and detailed review of the conduct of some of the members and officers of the House. The details of the review will NOT be made public. The discussion that resulted in this decision involved the Chairman of the former House, and we would like to publicly acknowledge his cooperation and input. This drastic action should NOT be interpreted as an indictment against all the members and officers of House Jakarta. It is simply an acknowledgement that the current degree of disrepute makes it highly improbable that the good name of House Jakarta can be rehabilitated. More information on the future of the entity known as House Jakarta will be posted here in the near future. Several plans and options are being considered. In the meantime, speculation is pointless. We don't mean to discourage your speculation; we merely point out that it serves no useful purpose. Members of House Jakarta can access their lockers through the House annexes located in IceMule Trace and on Teras Isle. Members should contact [email protected] or ASSIST in the lands for more information regarding their lockers. Kristing House Controller |

6/10/2000 | A Tale of Two Elves |
by Lysander Loenthra, age 5
Once upon a time, there were two elves. One elf was named Meagheric and he had a dog that barked. The second was named Ealera and she cracked her knuckles all the time. Ealera liked to flirt with Meagheric. Prodding Ealera, Meagheric snarled at her to leave him alone and marched off! A grieving Ealera trudged over to her mother, stomping her feet and gnashing her teeth in frustration. Twiddling her thumbs, Ealera's mother listened to the girl's woeful tale, occasionally wiggling her ears in sympathy. Striding over to Meagheric's father, Ealera's mother scolded him for bringing up such an ill-mannered boy. Meagheric's father roared at her! Stumbling away, Ealera's mother realized that the fruit doesn't fall too far from the tree, and exhaled slowly. The next day, Ealera sashayed up to Meagheric, and gave him a great big raspberry. This is the end of my story, hope you liked it! This story is FULL of new verbs. Some of the ones that have been found:

6/8/2000 | Singers Rejoice! |
Bards and musical aficionados rejoice!
It seems that Jastev, in his endless quest to preserve the knowledge of all things artistic for eternity, stumbled upon some ancient records. Included in these texts were the musical notations for Song of Sonic Armor, Song of Rage, Song of Noise, and the previously-unheard-of Song of Mirrors. In his desire to preserve this knowledge for the survivors of the apocalypse he has forseen, Jastev apparently didn't feel inclined to share these songs with his present-day followers. Cholen, however, learned of Jastev's monumental discovery, and has (along with a little helpful nudging from Lumnis) cajoled the songs from Jastev for all to appreciate! Please check out the Tomes on Friday, June 9, to view the details about these new spellsongs. Alternatively, the spell descriptions can be found later this evening in the "Bard's Banter" topic in our message boards. We hope you enjoy the new songs! |

Telgrin reports that the Giantman Village is now located right near the Glatoph
glacier.
[Upper Trollfang, Glatoph] The breeze blowing from the west is merely cool, rather than icy cold, as it is farther east around the mountain. The modwirs are numerous here, and some broadleaved bushes clump around their trunks. You also see a frost-covered battle axe and a newly-cut path. Obvious paths: east, west. |
