7/28/2000 Castle Varunar inhabitants learn new tricks!
Lord Georgias reports:
All the monsters in Varunar are changed somewhat. Phantasmas now ewave and have a bunch more defense...which probably means they are a bit older. Phantasmas also can stare at you and make your stance offensive. Phantasmas also seem to have quit a few defensive spells. They have the deep blues, guards, and about 5 other new defensive spells. They also seem to be able to drain your mana.

Skeletal Lords can disarm now and knock your weapon out of your hands (similar to warrior disarm, and are also reported to know the trip skill as well.)

Warhorses seem to be able to "trample" you now.

7/25/2000 Spell Hindrance modified again
As of this evening, spell hindrances across the board have been modified (read: reduced). Please continue to give us your comments and discussion on this new system on the boards, Category: Weapons and Armor, Folder: Weapons and Armor as we continue to evaluate this change and its effects on your characters.

Editor's note: My spirit circle hindrance with Brig and 20 trainings went down from 24% to 14%. Some people fully or overtrained for Brig (meaning 30 trainings in this case) are seeing 7% hindrance, one less then what it was before the changes.

7/25/2000 Armor Hindrance Changes
Effective 7/25/00, a change in armor spell hindrance was introduced into GemStone III. Some of you may notice that you get more armor hindrance when casting spells. This is due to the way spell hindrance is now computed. Check the GemStone III Armor and Weapons Discussions folder in the Armor and Weapons Category on the Message Boards for more details and discussions.

Editor's note: Some of the penalties are rather severe. I've seen the penalties for people who are fully trained for the armor exceed 200%, which is clearly an error. This may have been corrected already. Also, it seems you have to be trained higher to remove the extra spell hindrance than you do to remove the movement penalty. You need to have 20 points of training (not ranks) for each base percent of hindrance. For example, Brig's base (minimum) penalty spirit spells is 8%, so 160 points of training (60 ranks) is required to have only the 8% hindrance. By contrast, only 120 points (30 ranks) are required to remove the movement penalty. Fully trained for Brig used to mean 30 ranks, it's now 60. As for how much the hindrance is increased, I have 20 ranks of armor training, and my hindrance with Brig went from 8% to 24% - about the same as I would have had with full plate before the change.

7/25/2000 New Character Manager (Prime)
As of 07/25/200 a new Character Manager has been implemented. The new Character Manager offers new features. For more information and discussions please read the announcement in the Discussions Category in the GemStone III Message Boards. Please report any bugs with the system using the in-game BUG verb.

7/24/2000 Giantman Village on the move again
The Giantman Village is now reported to be near the trail to the AI and Dangirland.

7/15/2000 Giantman Village on the move
A few days ago the village was spotted around the gash again. Now today it seems to have ran to a new location. The mine road. Go over the bank then head northeast once and then northwest and down the path.

7/7/2000 Creatures Identified!
The Elanthia Center for Creature Studies (ECCS) has recently completed an extensive study of the fauna in the lands. Over seventy creatures not before classified have been catalogued. This extensive information is now available to you, courtesy of the ECCS, through the DESCRIBE verb.

Please note that the ECCS is still studying several species, including vvrael warlocks, vvrael witches and cyclops. As information is still sketchy on these, definitive information has not been released.

If you find a species of naturally occurring creature (not invasion) that does not have a description, please report it to your nearest ECCS office via the BUG verb.

Thank you.

We are creating a new chat room for Gemstone on IRC. It will be much better then the AOL chat room, as certain people will be able to kick and ban people from the room for disruptive behavior. If you want anymore information, please feel free to email me at [email protected] or join us at #GemstoneIII on EFNet.
