6/21/2002 Herb Bundling Information!
Due to the recent release of the updated and expanded foraging system, herbs and other forageable items have also been changed. The result of this is that "new" herbs can not be bundled with "old" herbs (ones that existed prior to the date of this news item); however, you may still bundle new with new and old with old.

Eventually, the "old" style herbs will be consumed and replaced completely with the new and this will no longer be an issue. Thank you for your understanding and enjoy the benefits of the revised system!

6/21/2002 HSN Release: New Flora Identified!
Herbalists and gardeners from across the lands have compiled their research and are pleased to announce they have identified a great number of new plant species from over all of Elanthia. Those skilled in the art of foraging should now be able to find a wider selection of flora -- provided they possess the knowledge of where and when to search for what they seek!

The gardeners note that not all species may be found in any particular area, and make the reminder that knowledge of location, climate and terrain are key to successful foraging. The herbalists were also quick to add that some plants may despise the light of day, and there are those that cannot thrive in wide open areas.

The new herb and foraging system includes the following new features:

  • Expanded selection of flora. Total of over 100 types of items at release.
  • Climate and terrain factor in more realistically when foraging. Some types of plants may only be found in specific areas.
  • Time of day now plays a role. Some species of plants may only thrive in the dark of night, and some may only be found while the sun shines.
  • Locations become more important. A particular plant might only be found in areas sheltered from the elements, such as caves, tunnels, etc., while others may crave the open outdoors.
  • More informative messaging. Messaging will be of more assistance when you don't find what you are looking for.
  • Balanced and updated mechanics. The new foraging system takes advantage of many of GemStone III's newer programming feature.
