2/24/2003 Rangers Get One More Chance at Utopia
As a result of problems when reallocation was first released, the release of a few changes that had a significant impact on the Ranger community were delayed. After some consideration, we've decided to make accommodations for Rangers that have used up their six reallocation attempts. Within the next few days, Rangers who have used up their six reallocation attempts or have run out of time will have one more shot at reallocation, as well as a short grace period to complete this final attempt. The final details are not yet worked out, and are subject to change. We will provide more information as it is available.

2/24/2003 The City of Icemule Sends its Regrets
To our Friends in the City of Solhaven,

It was with great sadness that we received word of the death of your Empress, Mynal'lyanna Anodheles. We extend to you our most sincere sympathy at this time of mourning and division. We hope and trust that the reign of the Aurmont Anodheles will restore order and peace to your lives, and that the spirit of friendship, cooperation, and open trade will continue unabated.

2/24/2003 Ta'Nalfein Offers Aid to the Human Empire
A diplomatic emissary from Ta'Nalfein arrived in Vornavis yesterday and presented herself to Baron Malwind. With all appropriate ceremony, the emissary expressed her regret at the assassination of Mynal'lyanna and offered the aid of Ta'Nalfein in the search for the assassin. Baron Malwind thanked the emissary for this offer and invited her to enjoy the hospitality of Vornavis for the interim, but the diplomat declined, saying that her responsibilities in Ta'Nalfein would not permit her to remain. She thanked Baron Malwind for his civility and hospitality before departing early this morning.

2/24/2003 Ta'Illistim Regrets the Death of the Human Empress
A diplomatic emissary conveyed a message from Ta'Illistim, expressing the regrets of Ta'Illistim's queen in regards to the untimely death of Mynal'lyanna Anodheles. In part, the message read, "The citizens of Ta'Illistim mourn the passing of Mynal'lyanna Anodheles, and we fear that the planned renaissance of her reign will die along with its creator. We invite Aurmont Anodheles to accept the available opportunity to usher in a more civilized way of life for his people." The emissary left as soon as the message had been delivered. No official response to the emissary's message was available, but tensions between Ta'Illistim and the Dwarven clans are expected as a result.

2/24/2003 Parkshnuum Clan Condems the Dead Empress
The leaders of the Parkshnuum Clan issued a statement regarding the death of the Empress Mynal'lyanna. The statement condemned regicide as a whole, but condemned the choices of Mynal'lyanna's rule as well. In part, the statement read, "While the murder of any legitimate ruler is an undeniable crime, the legitimacy of a ruler who permits and encourages the enslavement, degradation, and murder of a free people must be questioned. Her successor should learn from this example and be more intelligent in his actions. When no mercy has been offered, no mercy can be expected. We do not condone regicide, but Mynal'lyanna's death can only serve as a lesson to the rest of the world." The Parkshnuum dwarves are known to be particularly bitter toward the Turamzzyrian Empire due to the actions of Baron Hochstib of Jantalar, who enslaved the dwarves living in the province of Talador and killed hundreds of their number in 5094 as a show of his power.

2/22/2003 Important Changes to Fame
On Thursday, February 20th, around 3 PM EST, we will be bringing the game down for a brief reset (about 15 minutes). When the game comes back up, FAME will have undergone a change. Everyone's current fame will be reduced by a division of 10. For example, if you had 2 million fame before, you will be left with 200 thousand. From this point forward, fame rewards for killing a creature will also be one-tenth of what they were before. Other fame awards will also be adjusted accordingly. Don't worry, Hearthstone and other things that check fame have also been updated to expect one-tenth of what they had before.

In addition to these changes, the FAME list will also be wiped clean. It will have also undergone some changes. Rather than storing the top 100 players in each category (race, profession, and overall), it will simply store the top 1000 players. There will be different options for sorting through the list which you will be able to see with FAME HELP. In order to get your name on the list, make sure you type FLAG FAME and then CHECK IN to your local inn.

Enjoy!

2/20/2003 Dark Catalyst Revised!
Sorcerer spell 719, Dark Catalyst, has been updated! More creatures are now classified as highly magical that once were not. As a result, the mana return for Dark Catalyst has been altered to reflect the increase in highly magical creatures. This trade-off will allow sorcerers to use Dark Catalyst on a wider variety of critters throughout Elanthia. The mana returned is still based on the amount of mana drained from the creature as well as the caster's Mana Share skill. The typical mana return has been reduced, with a chance for higher returns.

2/19/2003 Sounds Update
Sounds (607) has been updated! This spell now has a flat duration time of 2 minutes (previously 2 seconds per level) and works best with targets up to 15+ levels above the caster. After that, there is a failure percentage per level until the target is 20+ levels above the caster, at which point it will not work. Training in the Ranger Spell Circle will add a bonus to this spell, maximizing at the 90th spell level, giving the target a maximum penalty of -50 to its defense. The level of the target could affect this bonus, but the penalty on a successful cast will always be at least -20 to the target's defense.

2/19/2003 Imbue Update
Imbue (614) has been updated! Two important updates have been made: Rangers are now able to imbue wearable items that can hold up to 50 mana! Also, new factors determine the success in terms of the amount of mana an item can hold. New items may now be imbued, such as bracelets and anklets.

2/18/2003 Turamzzyrian Succession
After a detailed and careful examination of the late Empress's lineage and all appropriate potential successors to the throne, the identity of the next Emperor has been determined. Surrounded by all appropriate ceremony, Aurmont Anodheles will accept the crown of the Turamzzyrian Empire at a date yet to be determined. Considering the circumstances surrounding the late Empress's death, the coronation will be held at a time and place fitting to the new Emperor and to all considerations of security. (Needless to say, it will not be the city of Solhaven.)

Aurmont Anodheles is the first cousin of the late Empress. Considering the circumstances of his position, it is not believed that he has any relation to the assassination of Mynal'lyanna Anodheles, and his surprise and grief over his cousin's death are widely believed to be genuine.

Aside from an appropriate respect for the Church of Koar, Aurmont's religious inclinations are unknown at this time, and he is not noted for strong views regarding Chaston's Edict. His intentions regarding the late Empress's desire to expand the reach of the Turmzzyrian Empire are also unknown. However, there is no doubt that all will become clear as the new Emperor's reign progresses.

Thy Empire hails thee, Aurmont Anodheles, and the new era marked by your reign!

2/13/2003 Shields, Bows, and Crossbows Get Smarter!
After a dozen years, it has finally occurred to the average adventurer that their shields and bows work better in their left hands. Therefore, when they GET or REMOVE such an item, it will by default attempt to make its way to their left hand. If that proves unavailable due to injury or prior engagements, the right hand will be settled for.
