You will notice that spirit regeneration rates are slower than before.

10/17/2004 | DEATH'S STING DOCUMENTATION |
Upon being restored to life, a character will be in a weakened state, with all stats experiencing a reduction of 40%. The rate of recovery depends on how the character died and was restored to life.
Rate of Stat recovery for each type of death is as follows: Death with deeds and Resurrection: 4% per minute Death with resurrection, no deeds: 2% per minute Decay with deeds: 2% per minute Decay without deeds: 1% per minute. The Cleric spell, Holy Receptacle (325) - Chrism, can be used to mitigate this weakness, reducing it by up to 50% (to a 20% stat reduction). This will allow characters to prepare for emergencies, like major invasions, and be able to get fallen heroes back into the fray within minutes, if needed, but at a cost of a Chrism gem. Also, characters under level 10 will recover at twice the normal rate. In addition to the above, the character's Constitution will be reduced, with the amount based on the way that the character died and the number of times the character has died recently. Recent deaths are defined as those in the last 50,000 experience or 30 days, whichever results in fewer recent deaths. Players may type EXP to see their number of recent deaths. Constitution reduction for each type of death is as follows: Death with deeds and resurrection: 1 per recent death. Death with resurrection, no deeds: As above, +3. Reduced Health, Stamina, Spirit, and Mana recovery rate for the next 2000 experience. Decay with deeds: As above, with slightly greater reduction in recovery rate. Decay without deeds: As above, with the reduction in recovery rate for the next 10,000 experience. The modifier for recent deaths will be capped at 5; even if a character has a chronic death problem, the character will not lose more than 5 Constitution for a normal death with resurrection. The cumulative maximum reduction will be capped at 25. These points will be recouped at a rate of 1 point per 2000 exp gained. The Cleric spell, Holy Receptacle (325) - Chrism, may mitigate this temporary Constitution loss, reducing it by up to 2 points. Characters under level 10 will not lose Constitution for recent deaths. Characters will also lose any unabsorbed field experience at the time of resurrection. There is a means in which characters can recoup these temporary losses ... it is a puzzle for the players to figure out! |

10/17/2004 | DEATH'S STING RELEASED! |
A great earthquake shook all of Elanith last night and what happened next shocked everyone everywhere. A massive shadowy dragon erupted out of a mountain peak in the DragonSpine Mountains and took flight, passing over most of the major cities.
The dragon appeared not immediately threatening as it gazed down upon the citizens of all the towns. It soon disappeared for a period of time until it was once again discovered flying along the Western Coast of Elanith. No one would fully realize the reason behind this dragon's appearance until a Priestess of Lorminstra came forward with a story: "The Cycle of Life is changing to how it once was. Long ago, when the world was new to the lesser races and the land had just left the reign of the Drakes, the Arkati graced the world with their presence. Each of them was given a task in healing the land and restoring things to how they were before the Great War." "The tasks were new to all the Arkati, and their powers were still developing as they learned their new position in the world. As such, when Lorminstra would return a worthy soul back from the brink of the Ebon Gate, she would not fully heal them, both body and soul. As they learned to harness the full potential of their powers, she then would extend gifts of healing those worthy in full for their devotion of her deeds." "Kor'thriss, the shadowy dragon everyone saw this evening, is the guardian of the world. It was his task to collect the excess essence that lingered behind on the world whenever someone died, but was not fully healed. This essence is a form of energy that often took upon the shape of wisps, and if it remained left alone, it would have a dire effect as it conflicts with the mana flows of Elanthia. Kor'thriss collects and distributes the energy to new life. When the Lady started to fully heal the worthy and the essence ceased to linger, Lady Lorminstra asked Lord Koar to put Kor'thriss back to slumber in the center of the world, and there he remained until now." "With Kor'thriss awakened, obviously at the behest of Lady Lorminstra and Lord Koar, it has signaled to us that the Cycle of Life has turned once more. Things will return to how they were. We do not know the full reason why things are changing. Some among the clergy say it is because Lady Lorminstra wishes to teach us a lesson in the value of life. Others say that she wishes to punish us, to harden our spirits to prepare for the Oblivion should our time come." Shortly after the Priestess of Lorminstra told the story, everyone felt a faint presence pass over their body, and a soft sigh in their ear. A somber voice spoke gently, "Fear not, Children of Elanitha. A new dawn is rising upon the horizon of your lives as the Cycle of Life now has come full turn." And then a soft white glow surrounded everyone, and coalesced into small orbs that spiraled off towards the heavens. What happens now... one cannot say for certain. An era of change has passed over the faithful inhabitants of Elanthia, and we will just have to see how it plays out. But for now, be safe. ~ A Journalist OOC note: Death's Sting has been implemented within GemStone IV last night. More documentation on this system and how it'll affect you will be coming along shortly. |

10/8/2004 | RSN PREVIEW: CML MIGRATION SYSTEM |
The Combat Maneuvers List (CML) learning/unlearning system is being revamped for a November RSN release. Learning CML skills will become an instantaneous process (versus the current two-minute wait per rank). Also, there will no longer be migration goals for each individual CML skill. Instead, unlearning CML skills will be handled by a Combat Maneuvers Points (CMP)-based migration system.
Under this system, when a player decides to unlearn a rank in a CML skill, the rank is immediately removed and the related CMP is then placed in their unlearning points pool. The CML Migration System then periodically transfers CMP from their unlearning points pool to their learned points pool, where they can then be spent on other CML skills. The rate at which these points transfer is based on the total number of CMP the player has converted within their current 30-day CMP migration cycle. If the player has converted less than 30 points, migration will proceed at a base rate of .375 CMP per hour (or 80 hours total to migrate a full 30 points). If the player has converted between 30 and 45 CMP in their current cycle, this conversion rate is halved. The conversion rate is reduced to 1/10 of its base when the player has converted more than 45 CMP. The CML Migration System will come into effect on November 15, 2004. Any new CML skills released after this date will possess a 30-day testing period from their release date, where any CMP unlearned from them will be directly placed in the learned points pool (i.e. instantaneous point migration). Use of a FIXSKILLS will also automatically convert any unlearning points into learned points. Please note that players will not receive an additional FIXSKILLS for this system release. Visit the GemStone IV Forums for discussion on these changes - Hunting and Game Design folder, Combat Maneuvers Discussion sub-folder. |

The masses traveled far and wide. Each gathering with it's own history, stories, and lore. Some have fallen in the wake, but, alas, Koar's thirst beckons to the Gathering Virgins to join... to join with their comrades... to be part of the history, stories, and lore... to be part of the Storm, otherwise known as Maelstrom! The next volume is to be written, but Spring and the visit to SinCity are too far away. The masses unite as the Storm returns to the bay...
