Hand of Tonis (505) has been updated!

Ranks over 20 increases the Damage Factor (DF) of the spell's bolting capabilities. Discussions will take place in the Wizards - Wizard General Discussion folder of the GemStone IV Forums -- http://www.play.net/forums/post.asp?forum=102&category=29&topic=4 |

11/30/2004 | RSN: CALL WIND (912) UPDATE |
Call Wind (912) has been updated!
Training in Elemental Lore, Air increases the chance of forming a vortex starting at 2% chance at 5 ranks, with the maximum being 30% chance at 200 ranks (summation*2). These vorteces will last between 6 and 8 rounds, where each round is between 5 and 10 seconds. On each round, the vortex will target a single random foe that had been hit by the original cast of Call Wind, and may cause a loss of stance, as well as Roundtime. Discussion on this update will take place in the Wizards - Wizard General Discussion folder of the GemStone IV Forums -- http://www.play.net/forums/messages.asp?forum=102&category=29&topic=4 |

11/30/2004 | RSN: MULTI-OPPONENT COMBAT CHANGES |
Multi-Opponent Combat (a.k.a. MOC or Force on Force combat) has been implemented as part of our Really Spectacular November!
How does it work? If a target is attacked by more than one attacker within a short period (less than 10 seconds), the target's defenses may be reduced. The amount of reduction in the target's defenses is based on the number of attackers, the level of the attackers compared to the defender, and the defender's skill in Multi-Opponent Combat. Attackers within +/- 10 levels of the defender are considered one attacker. Attackers more than 10 levels below the defender are treated as half of an attacker. Attackers more than 10 levels above the defender are treated as 1.5 attackers. The total number of attackers is tallied and rounded to determine how many effective attackers are engaging the defender (even if an attacker is 20 levels higher than the defender, no multi-attacker penalty applies to the defender unless there is another attacker). At 15 MOC ranks, and for every 20 MOC ranks thereafter, one effective attacker is negated. For every effective attacker beyond the first, the defender's effective stance is reduced by 25%, similar to the way that ambushing from hiding currently modifies a defender's effective stance. If the total reduction would go below 0 (full offensive stance), then the remainder percentage will be applied to the defender's offensive-stance Parry, Evade, and Block DS. It will not reduce those values below 0. This initial release will apply to all creature defenders, but only to player defenders 50th level and higher. The release will be expanded to include all player defenders on December 7th. Discussions will take place in the Hunting and Game Design Discussions - GemStone IV Combat Changes folder of the GemStone IV Forums -- http://www.play.net/forums/messages.asp?forum=102&category=4&topic=25 |

11/30/2004 | RSN: SONIC BLADE SONG (1012) UPDATE |
Bards everywhere rejoice!
Sonic Blade Song (1012) has increased its variety of weapon names. Bards may now create just about any weapon that could be found in a merchant shop. Many of the weapons found on the website documentation can be created: http://www.play.net/gs4/info/armory/weapons.asp If there is a weapon name that would only be available by alteration, the bard must be holding that weapon in their hand to be able to create the sonic version. Weapons with special properties, such as katanas, naginatas, and claidhmores, can not be created with this song. |

11/30/2004 | RSN: BARD COLLEGE ANNOUNCES NEW SONG RESEARCH |
The bardic college announces its researchers have developed enhancements to existing knowledge of spell songs. "We're very excited about the new attack capabilty," said one senior professor in charge of combat magic.
The spell updates are as follows: 1001 (Song of Holding) has been updated to include capability for multiple targets. 1008 (Mass Holding) has been replaced by the new song Stunning Shout, which is a direct-damage instantaneous warding spell. 1001 (Song of Holding) now allows the song to affect an additional target per 7 bard ranks over 1 (it affects 2 creatures with 8 songs known, 3 creatures with 15 songs, etc.) An additional mana cost is incurred for each extra creature affected. The song can be cast targeted (sing orc) or unfocused (sing). 1008 (Stunning Shout) is a direct warding attack that does damage, criticals, can cause knockdowns, stuns, or disorient the target (effects increase with the margin your ward the target by). Mana cost is 8 per cast, and the song does not renew. For further discussion of these new developments and documentation, please visit the Gemstone IV Forums, Bards topic. |

11/24/2004 | RSN: TWO NEW WARRIOR ABILITIES |
Two new verbs, GUARD and PROTECT, have been released! These two verbs can be used by warriors to devote some of their blocking or parrying ability towards another player.
Guard allows a warrior to attempt to block attacks against another target (either player or creature), Protect allows a warrior to parry attacks against a target (either player or creature). A warrior can only attempt to guard or protect one target at a time (i.e. cannot do both at the same time), and a target can only have one guard and/or one protecter at any given time (i.e. one guard, or one protector, or both). To start guard/protecting a target, the warrior simply uses GUARD <target> or PROTECT <target>. To stop, the warrior may use STOP GUARDING or STOP PROTECTING. When guarding, the warrior automatically (if not incapacitaed) attempts to block attacks against the target with 50% of his or her normal blocking ability, at the cost of 25% reduction in chances to block attacks directed towards him or herself (i.e. if the warrior normally has a 20% chance to block an attack against themself, then the warrior would have a 10% chance to block attacks against his or her guarded target and a 15% chance to block attacks against themself.) Protect works in exactly the same way, but with parry attempts instead of blocking. The above only applies to the chances to outright block/parry an attack, it does not affect either party's derived parry or block DS. Discussions will take place in the Warrior - Warrior Hunting Strategies folder of the GemStone IV Forums -- http://www.play.net/forums/messages.asp?forum=102&category=28&topic=4 |

11/22/2004 | RSN: GLD CHECK IN UPDATE |
GM Ildran has updated the GLD CHECK IN command to allow guild members to pay dues 90 days (3 months) in advance.
Each time a guild member asks a Guild Master about check in, it accounts for one month of dues. It is possible to do this up to 3 times, for a total of 3 months paid in advance. Due to the fact that Guild Masters are expected to be very involved in the guild, they are not able to pay dues three months in advance, but are able to refresh their current month. This is an improvement upon the previous method which only allowed a Guild Master to check in when the 30 days expired. Guild Masters will only be able gain experience by checking in other Guild Masters every 20 days in an effort to prevent EXP abuse. |

The GemStone IV staff is proud to bring you the first new profession since 1989 -- Paladins!
A Paladin is a martial champion sworn to the service of a patron Arkati, serving both as the fighting arm to slay those who would oppose the patron deity and as the defender of the deity's faithful servants. In recognition of the service of the champion, the patron Arkati grants powerful spiritual abilities to enhance and protect the Paladin on the field of battle. Through close physical combat, Paladins conquer their foes with force, supplemented by spells of the spiritual magic sphere. To aid with their constant fighting on behalf of their patrons, Paladins have learned to wear heavy armors and are skilled with all of the melee combat forms. 11/16/2004 | TRY A PALADIN FOR FREE |
In order to allow all GemStone players the opportunity to try Paladins without sacrificing existing characters, we will TEMPORARILY increase all accounts' character slots by 1 through January 2, 2005.
On January 2nd, we will remove the additional character slot. If, at that time, there are too many characters on your account, we will select one to remove along with the slot. To prevent us from removing the incorrect character, please either add an extra character slot to retain the character ( https://www.play.net/gs4/signup/subscribe_char.asp ) or delete the character of your choice ( https://www.play.net/gs4/play/delete_character.asp ) before that date. If we do remove a character you would have preferred to remain, you can contact the billing department at [email protected] or 636-925-3172 to have the character returned to your visible character list, but it would be best to prepare by January 2, 2005 by amending your account to your wishes. (For the sake of clarity, Paladins are NOT currently released. However, we are making the slots available now so that they will be ready when Paladins go live.) |

11/15/2004 | RSN: TRIP COMMAND UPDATE |
GM Coase has also updated the TRIP command.
This update will result in the application of the standard CML roll and stamina costs to TRIP. This will also make it possible for the success rate of the skill to be improved by spending CMP on it. All players with at least 15 ranks in the relevant weapon skill will continue to have without having to spend CMP. The stamina cost for this version of trip will be 10 and possesses success rates similar to or better than were previously available for the skill (though slightly lower than CML Rank 1). For more information on the updated TRIP command, type CMAN HELP TRIP. Discussions on this topic will take place in the Hunting and Game Design Discussions - Combat Maneuvers Discussions folder http://www.play.net/forums/messages.asp?forum=102&category=4&topic=23 |

11/15/2004 | RSN: CML MIGRATION SYSTEM UPDATE |
GM Coase has updated the Combat Maneuvers List (CML) learning/unlearning system.
Learning CML skills will become an instantaneous process (versus the current two-minute wait per rank). Also, there will no longer be migration goals for each individual CML skill. Instead, unlearning CML skills will be handled by a Combat Maneuvers Points (CMP)-based migration system. CML Migration System Under this system, when a player decides to unlearn a rank in a CML skill, the rank is immediately removed and the related CMP is then placed in their unlearning points pool. The CML Migration System then periodically transfers CMP from their unlearning points pool to their learned points pool, where they can then be spent on other CML skills. The rate at which these points transfer is based on the total number of CMP the player has converted within their current 30-day CMP migration cycle. If the player has converted less than 30 points, migration will proceed at a base rate of .375 CMP per hour (or 80 hours total to migrate a full 30 points). If the player has converted between 30 and 45 CMP in their current cycle, this conversion rate is halved. The conversion rate is reduced to 1/10 of its base when the player has converted more than 45 CMP. Any new CML skills released after today (November 15, 2004) will possess a 30-day testing period from their release date, where any CMP unlearned from them will be directly placed in the learned points pool (i.e. instantaneous point migration). Use of a FIXSKILLS will also automatically convert any unlearning points into learned points. Please note that players will not receive an additional FIXSKILLS for this system release. Discussions on this topic will take place in the Hunting and Game Design Discussions - Combat Maneuvers Discussions folder http://www.play.net/forums/messages.asp?forum=102&category=4&topic=23 |

11/9/2004 | HAVING DIFFICULTIES ACCESSING YOUR GOALS PAGE? |
Recently Microsoft released an upgrade to their Internet Explorer that is causing some communication problems between the game's front ends and the GOALS page (in a nutshell, IE is stripping the case from the front end as it's passed to the IE).
We are currently working on a fix to the problem and hope to have it resolved in the near future, but for the time being if you downloaded the IE update and can no longer access your GOALS page you can use a workaround. When the GOALS page fails to load you will see a URL string returned to you. If you clip and paste that URL string into your browser's address bar, the GOALS page should load for you without a problem. |

11/8/2004 | FLASHFEET'S FINE FASHIONS TO REOPEN! |
After years of selling the same old stuff, Flashfeet closed up his shop and put many of his clan's tailors and seamstresses to work. On the 9th day of Eoantos (Tuesday, November 9th), Flashfeet will hold a ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate the reopening of what will be Elanith's most chic and up-to-date fashion boutique.
Of interest to some might be the fact that this will be the first clothing shop to feature garments specific to the customs of a particular culture, although by no means is the purchase of such garments limited to Halflings. Please meet Flashfeet outside his shop at 9:00 PM (Eastern time) for the ceremony and celebration! Don't forget to bring your silvers! |

11/5/2004 | RSN: ICE PATCH (512) UPDATE |
GM Nitid has made the following improvements to the spell:
*-* If Ice Patch is directed at a specific target, it will root them in place, hampering combat. *-* With Elemental Lore, Water training, it is possible to cast Minor Water (903) at the target and it will convert to minor cold (the spell found in blue wands). 10 ranks of Elemental Lore, Water will allow one cast of 903-converted minor cold, with the maximum being twelve casts at 200 ranks. *-* When untargetted, it is possible that the target may hurt themselves after falling (requires Elemental Lore, Water training). 11/3/2004 | EBON GATE CLAIDHMORE ERROR |
A spanner in the works recently creeped into one of the shops in Ebon Gate, and a weapon which never was meant to be sold was. Many of them were quickly sold and by the time we realized it and pulled it from the shop, a great deal were in circulation.
Unfortunately, we do need to fix this and will be correcting them to what we are allowed to sell off the shelf, which, for a claidhmore, is a max of +2 and not magical. Should you not like your purchase, we encourage you to ASSIST, and a GameMaster would be happy to refund the original purchase price. We apologize for the gremlins in the gears and hope we do not make the same error again. |

11/1/2004 | RSN: SUN BURST (609) UPDATE |
The next ranger RSN improvement is the Sun Burst (609) update, also brought to you by GM Mestys.
Sun Burst (609) has been given a focused incarnation. Now, when CASTing AT a target player or creature, there will be a warding roll to determine an outcome. When successfully cast upon an undead creature, the target will incur a bit of Roundtime (RT). When successfully cast upon a player or living creature, the target will suffer severe perception loss, as well as a fair reduction in evasion chance while under its effects (they will not incur Roundtime). The unfocused version of the spell remains predominantly unchanged, except that it will now disallow those it has revealed from hiding from immediately hiding again for a few moments, similar to revealing via the POINT verb. Furthermore, though the targetted version of the spell is considered a spell of war, the unfocused version will not be affected by sanctuaries or when the caster is subject to a calm effect. Discussion on this update will take place in the Rangers - Spells and Combat folder of the GemStone IV forums. |

11/1/2004 | RSN: CAMOUFLAGE (608) UPDATE |

The Camouflage (608) spell has been updated to allow the caster to SNEAK out of the area or STALK another player, at the cost of losing the effects of the spell. Discussion on this update will take place in the Rangers - Spells and Combat folder of the GemStone IV forums. |
