12/31/2004 FORGERS RECEIVE RECOGNITION FOR THEIR WORK!
The Artisan's Guild is pleased to announce the ability for its members to receive recognition for their hard work when creating a weapon. A small crafting mark will now appear on the blades of weapons, unique to each forger.

12/22/2004 ANNUAL TREE DECORATING AND WINTER SOLSTICE BALL TONIGHT
The annual tree decorating ceremony hosted by the Cooperative Houses of Elanthia will be held tonight the 22nd of Eorgaen (Wednesday, Dec. 22) starting at 9:00 PM EST in the Garden Niche adjacent to the small park by Town Square Southwest in the Landing. Ornaments designed by the Great Houses will be hung on the tree (with care!) by a representative of each House. Come join the pageantry and gaze upon the enormous tree laden with one-of-a-kind ornaments! Each time you look at it, the majestic tree will show a different set of its new decorations.

The winner of this year's ornament design contest will also be announced tonight. Which House will be the victor in the year 5104?

Immediately following the tree decorating and announcement of the winning ornament design, there will be a Solstice Ball in celebration of the season and as a grand closure of this year's CHE Winter Faire. There will be dancing and feasting and gift-giving! Everyone is welcome!

12/20/2004 CHE WINTER FAIRE EXTENDED!
Due to the recent blackout in the Lands, The Cooperative Houses of Elanthia have decided to maintain the first annual CHE Winter Faire open for another three full days! The wintery festivities will continue along North Ring Road in Wehnimer's Landing and will feature two more days full of games, contests, foods and visits by various merchants and artists eager to support the cooperative spirit of the Lands. The event will culminate with the traditional annual tree decorating ceremony and the opening of the Solstice Hall with a grand party. Everyone is welcome!

Look for the Great Houses' tents and partake of their hospitality and activities. See if you can find your way out of the winter maze, or if you can place among the best in the archery contest hosted by Kyrrin. Try your luck at the gambling tent! Have a snowball fight! Raffles will be held throughout the event; Someone has to win - Why not you?

The event will continue throughout Volnes and Tilamaires the 20th and 21st of Eorgaen until the hour of Ronan on Leyan the 22st of Eorgaen (All day and night Monday,Tuesday & Wednesday - Dec. 20th, 21st and 22nd) Listen for town criers with individual events information!

12/15/2004 H.E.R.T.'S HAVEN HUNTING HELP
New to Solhaven? Looking for new options when it comes to hunting grounds? Or new ideas and methods for your current one? Then come to Hunting Help hosted by H.E.R.T. in Solhaven on the 20th day of Eorgaen (December 20th) at 8 pm Empire Standard Time. We will be meeting inside the Triage Tent just west of Liabo Plaza.

We will be discussing hunting options in and around Solhaven and viable combat methods to use. Following the discussion, we will break into groups to explore appropriate hunting grounds, and test out what has been discussed. Come join us for a helpful and interesting evening.

12/15/2004 NEW CHARACTER RESTORAL POLICY
Starting December 15, 2004, we are announcing a new restoral policy for characters that were permanently lost due to standard game mechanics, regardless of how they were lost (i.e..Retiring/Rerolling or Permanent Death). The policy regarding characters that were lost due to a system error still remain the same. This new policy is to allow customers to have their prized characters they may have lost in the normal play of the game restored at a cost.

12/13/2004 CML MIGRATION: REMINDER
On December 15, the 30-day instant migration period for the recently released combat maneuvers (Cutthroat, Dust Shroud, Block Mastery, Parry Mastery, Trip, Staggering Blow, Surge of Strength, Bull Rush, Truehand, Combat Toughness, and Combat Mobility) will end. This means that the recovered CMP (Combat Maneuvers Points) from unlearning these maneuvers will no longer be instantly converted into available CMP and will instead migrate at the normal rate (please see http://www.play.net/gs4/info/maneuvers/training.asp for the full details).

Note that there two outstanding maneuvers awaiting release: Coup de Grace and Weapon Bonding. If you are strongly interested in learning either maneuver, you may wish to consider leaving some CMP free to avoid long migration waits in the future.

12/11/2004 AUTOMATIC STEALTH GET FROM HIDING
The Rogue gambit skill STEALTH GET may now be set to be automatically attempted when in hiding, which will cause GET {object} to be treated as RGAMBIT STEALTH GET {object} if hidden. Use RGAMBIT AUTOMATIC to toggle the automatic use on and off.

Also, the STEALTH GET functionality of Rogue gambits has been overhauled, resulting in greater consistency with the standard GET handling. As a result, some things that may have been STEALTH GET-able in the past may no longer be, and other things that previously were not may become so. If you are unsure of whether or not a change is intentional, please post a message to the GemStone IV message board, Rogue category, Guild Skills topic.

12/11/2004 DIVINE FURY (317) RELEASED!
Divine Fury (317) has been released!

As a part of this release, the damage done by Smite/Bane (302) has been adjusted. With this reduction in damage, the mana cost has been set at 2, however infusing mana will increase the mana cost. For creatures that are of a different alignment than the cleric (Lornan vs. Liabo), there is an additional mana cost of +2. For clerics that worship a minor deity, the additional +1 mana cost has been removed.

Divine Fury (317)

Mnemonic: DFURY

Type: Attack

The Divine Fury spell allows the cleric to call upon her chosen deity to unleash severe damage upon the target. The damaging effects done to the target are based upon the cleric's CONVERTed deity.

Training in Spiritual Lore, Religion will increase the minimum damage done.

12/7/2004 RSN: MULTI-OPPONENT COMBAT UPDATES - WIDE RELEASE
Multi-Opponent Attacks:

If a target is attacked by more than one attacker within a short period (less than 10 seconds), the target's defenses may be reduced. The amount of reduction in the target's defenses is based on the number of attackers, the level of the attackers compared to the defender, and the defender's skill in Multi-Opponent Combat.

Attackers more than 10 levels below the defender are treated as half of an attacker. Attackers more than 10 levels above the defender are treated as 1.5 attackers. The total number of attackers is tallied to determine how many effective attackers are engaging the defender. (Even if an attacker is 20 levels higher than the defender, no multi-attacker penalty applies to the defender unless there is another attacker.) Rooted and prone attackers will be considered at half effectiveness for purposes of determining the number of attackers. The amount of Multi-Opponent Combat training required to fully offset another attacker is set at 10, 25, 45, and every 25 ranks thereafter.

For every effective attacker beyond the first, the defender's effective stance is reduced by 25%, similar to the way that ambushing from hiding currently modifies a defender's effective stance. If the total reduction would go below 0 (full offensive stance), then the remainder percentage will be applied to the defender's offensive-stance Parry, Evade, and Block DS. It will not reduce those values below half their normal offensive-stance values.

Every rank of MOC counts towards reducing the defensive reduction for multiple attackers. For example, if a character has 5 ranks of MOC and 10 are required to fully offset the first additional attacker, this character will only lose half of the defensive reduction that would normally apply when facing two attackers. Multi-Opponent Combat disregards attacks that did not occur in the current room. This prevents a loss of defenses from creatures in different areas when a character is traveling through hunting areas.

Creature attackers 10th level and under will be treated as weak attackers. Creature attackers greater than 10th level but less than 20th level will gradually increase their effectiveness until they are treated as normally skilled attackers at 20th level.

12/7/2004 JUSTICE SYSTEM CHANGES
The following changes will be made by GM Akaydar, to the Justice System in the next couple of days (likely Thursday morning).

Punishment Changes
~ The maximum fine for a single crime has been reduced by half. This for a single crime. There is no limit on how high your total fines can be.
~ The maximum time a player can spend in incarceration/stocks/community service has been reduced by half.
~ As a result, the maximum allowable fine that has an alternative of stocks/incarceration/community service has also been reduced by half.

Banishment Changes
~ Banished players will now be granted at least one hour to gather their belongings before they need to leave town, as opposed to the previous 10 minutes.
~ Banished players will be granted a certain amount of leeway if it has been approximately a week since they were last caught in town.
~ Lawmen will now begin searching for hidden and invisible players. Although players are less likely to be found while hidden, and even less likely to be found if invisible, they will be caught if they stick around long enough.

Justice Attire
~ Clothes will now be left in jail cells for criminals to use should they desire. They can be dropped off back at the constabulary when the criminal no longer has need for the clothes.

12/6/2004 ARTISAN'S GUILD: WORKERS LEARN NEW FORGING TECHNIQUE
The Artisan's Guild is pleased to announce that the following Guild workers have completed their training in the revised art of forging: Samilla, Fortog, Storien, Grondihaf, and Stonehammer. Congratulations!

The NPCs located at each of the town forges will now be able to convert weapons from the old system to the new. Due to limitations, the weapons must not have been altered from their originally forged state. Simply GIVE the weapon to the NPC and s/he will convert it for you. 12/2/2004 NORTON ANTIVIRUS AND ACTSKIN4.OCX
Symantec's Norton Antivirus, with virus definitions dated 12/1, will mark the file actskin4.ocx as being spyware, and recommend that you delete it. This file is actually used by the Stormfront front end, and is essential for it to operate. The file, in and of itself, is not spyware, but a rendering active X control. The file is legitimate. However, the file is used by some spyware programs on the market, and it is always wise to check to make sure you do not have these running on your system. For futher information, point your browser at: http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/spyware.realspy.html. If you have the other elements of this spyware program running that are listed on this site, then by all means remove the program. We are currently working to resolve this problem.

12/2/2004 RSN: FIXSKILLS
In the next few days, a free FIXSKILLS will be made available to all characters to help players adjust to the many changes and enhancements that have come with RSN (primarily MOC, but also the many spell changes, maneuvers, etc.).

It is highly recommended that players try the changes with their current training regimen before using this FIXSKILLS, as it will be a one-time option for RSN.

Be sure to ask any questions you may have before using the FIXSKILLS. Answers to your questions can be on the GemStone IV Forums or by ASSISTing with a GameHost.

Please note that FIXSKILLS do not accrue. If you already have one, this will not be an extra.
