3/29/2005 | CHANGES TO WEDDING VERBS |
In response to player requests and also in conjunction with the release of "Wavedancer" wedding verbs, the existing wedding verbs have all undergone major updates. One benefit of these changes is that players can now individually set their wedding verbs to standard messaging if the wedding messaging doesn't suit their character.
With the updates to the verbs, all previously married folks were set to "standard" messaging as a default. In order to make use of your wedding verbs, you will need to set each verb individually to cathedral messaging if you have that available to you. Additionally, all couples married on the Wavedancer will have all their verbs auto-set to "Wavedancer" options by default. In order to set your wedding verbs, you will need to type :VERB: SET :OPTION: for each of the verbs you wish to change. (For example, KISS SET CATHEDRAL to change your messaging to the cathedral wedding messaging for kiss, or HUG SET WAVEDANCER to change your messaging to the Wavedancer wedding messaging for hug.) You can type :VERB: SET by itself to see what options are available to you and what your current setting is. Lastly, we have also added the VERB verb. Typing VERB alone will show you the usage. At this time, all of the wedding verbs have been added to the VERB verb, and you can look at the different messaging options available there. Over time, we will add more verbs to the list, with the intent that this will become a comprehensive usage file for GemStone verbs. Discussion of the VERB verb and the updates to wedding verbs should be directed to the forums, under the General Roleplaying category, Roleplaying Verb Discussion topic. |

3/19/2005 | KITTENS GIVE UP |
At long last, the change you have been waiting for, and perhaps have given up waiting for, or perhaps were never waiting for, has happened. If you are the current owner of a kitten rescued aboard the Dhu Gillywack, you can now give your kitten away as a gift to a friend or loved one. Or, depending on your feeling about kittens, to an enemy.
The process is simple. Just GIVE <PERSON> your kitten. The first time you try it, the kitten will not want to go. It may not show it all the time, but it has grown attached to you and wants to make sure you really mean it. If you follow up very quickly with the same command again, you will offer the kitten to your intended beneficiary. Even then, you can cancel that offer, just like any offer. On the receiver's side, once your benefactor has successfully managed to part with his or her kitten, you will have 30 seconds to ACCEPT the offer, just like accepting any offer. And, once you interact with your kitten for the first time, it will be truly yours. Don't forget to get that cat carrier from your benefactor first, though. You'll need it. Kittens may also be registered. Apologies for the protracted delay in getting this out to you, and thank you for your patience. ~Mindra |

3/18/2005 | PALADIN CONVERSION RELEASED! |
The paladin conversion has been released!
The paladin conversion is an opportunity for players who had warrior or cleric characters, on or before November 20, 2004, to convert to the new paladin profession. This conversion is a permanent profession change to the character. If you choose to convert, enter the Character Manager and select option 20. After confirming your selection, you will proceed to the screen where you are prompted to set your stats. This is the only time you can set your stats. If you have any questions or concerns about stats, join the discussion in the Paladin folder on the GemStone IV Forums or roll up a Paladin to play and test first. There are no stat reallocations after this step. After setting up the character stats, you can either set up your skills in the text-based Character Manager or exit the Character Manager and set your skills by typing GOALS in the command prompt. Upon conversion, all guild affiliations and skills as well as any previously learned combat maneuver skills will be lost. Society and deity selections, however, will be retained. For 30 days following the conversion, all skills will migrate at an accelerated rate, so feel free to play around with skills during that time to become comfortable with how you'd like to train your character. After the 30 days, your character will migrate skills at the normal rate. Each time you log in, you will receive a notice with how many days are remaining at your accelerated skill migration rate. |

3/4/2005 | BUYER BEWARE |
GemStone IV operates in a "buyer beware" economy. When visiting merchant shops, use the tools provided to get an idea of what you are purchasing, namely any posted signs and the INSPECT verb. Though keep in mind, many merchant shops intend to keep an air of mystery about their wares. All shops items are sold as-is and no refunds or changes will be made, unless there is an error in how the item is constructed.
When making a purchase from another player, there are several ways everyone can protect themselves from getting scammed, such as asking to see the note or contents of a container before buying, getting a bard to LORESING, having a warrior ASSESS, casting Elemental Detection, and using one of the magic crystals (such as the one in the Abandoned Inn). In order to avoid someone running off with your money before handing over an item, use the EXCHANGE verb. All buyers are responsible for protecting themselves from dishonest dealers, so it is a good idea to check into the reputation of a seller when making a large investment of silvers. Remember, if something seems too good to be true, it most likely is! |
